The CAF Group has secured new contracts to supply electric buses in Europe. Namely, it will supply 14 24-metre units for the Danish city of Aalborg, 30 electric units for the Italian city of Genoa and 24 units for Barcelona These contracts amount to a value of approximately 45 million euros.

Solaris will supply 14 bi-articulated electric buses to the Danish operator, Tide Bus.

Solaris has been awarded the contract to supply 14 Urbino 24 model electric units for the Danish operator Tide Bus in the city of Aalborg, Denmark. This is a first of its kind order in Europe, both in terms of the length of the vehicle - 24 metres - and its unique design, called MetroStyle. This model is an ideal solution for cities with significant passenger traffic, specifically designed for Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) routes.

This 24-metre vehicle model was presented to the public for the first time at the 2019 Busworld in Brussels, with the intention of creating a platform for future series production, and this Danish operator order is the first that has been placed for this exclusive electric-powered, bi-articulated vehicle.

The vehicle will be equipped with two traction motors with a total capacity of 240 kW, powering two motor axles, and a Solaris High Energy battery pack with a total capacity of more than 700 kWh, which will be charged using a plug-in socket. Inside, each seat will be fitted out with a USB port for mobile devices and cutting-edge LED lighting.

Each of the 14 e-buses will also be equipped with a number of driver assistance systems, such as the MirrorEye system, with cameras replacing rear-view mirrors and side mirrors. This improves safety by increasing the field of vision and also improves visibility in bright sunlight, rainy weather and when it gets dark. They are also equipped with the Mobileye Shield+ system, which eliminates any risks caused by vehicle blind spots. Finally, so as to improve fleet management, the Urbino 24 electric MetroStyle will be equipped with eSConnect, a comprehensive fleet diagnostic tool to both improve operating efficiency and facilitate maintenance.

The CAF Group is the undisputed leader in electric bus sales in Italy.

Solaris has secured another success in this sector, winning an award to supply 30 electric buses to the operator AMT (Azienda Mobilità e Trasporti SpA) in Genoa. Investment in zero emission rolling stock is part of the Italian operator's ambitious plan to electrify the city’s entire bus fleet.

The vehicles AMT has ordered will be delivered at the capital of the Liguria region in the first quarter of 2022 and will stand out with their innovative equipment and safety features. The Urbino 12 bus will have a capacity to accommodate 24 passengers and will also be equipped with the MirrorEye system, thereby increasing driving safety. In addition, the vehicle is narrower as a result of this solution, thereby improving its aerodynamics and making it easier to manoeuvre in the characteristic narrow streets of this Italian city.

This order confirms Solaris' leadership in the electromobility sector in Italy, where more than half of the electric buses currently operating in Italian cities are CAF Group-supplied vehicles. In fact, by 2020, the company accounted for almost 70 percent of the market share of electric buses supplied in the country.

Solaris electric buses will strengthen Barcelona's zero-emission fleet.

The Barcelona metropolitan area public transport operator (TMB) has once again opted for electric buses manufactured by the CAF Group to add to its fleet. Namely, 24 new Urbino 12 model electric vehicles will be delivered in the Catalan capital at the end of 2022.

The vehicles which will be supplied to Barcelona will be powered by Solaris High Energy batteries, and can be recharged either by pantographs or plug-in technology. These are extremely quiet and emission-free vehicles and, with the appropriate battery and infrastructure configuration, can operate up to 24 hours a day.

Solaris vehicles were first incorporated in the TMB fleet in 2015. Since then, all the vehicles Solaris has supplier TMB have been equipped with hybrid or electric drive systems.
